The Costs and Dangers of Being an Early Adopter
Relating to the price cut on Apple’s iPhone last week, Low End Mac’s Charles W. Moore proclaims, “…. I’m not an early adopter by nature or temperament. I like to have an established frame of reference to go on before making purchase decisions, especially for big-ticket items, and I am virtually immune to impulse-buying.”
I certainly echo his sentiment. While I crave the latest high tech marvels like everyone else, I usually wait and pick the time when such a purchase can fit my budget on any big ticket item. Anything costing over $100 is a big ticket item to me… which includes the new iPod Touch.
“Folks who buy the early production version of any complex machine more often than not end up being late beta or prototype testers - and paying top dollar for the dubious privilege. “
